UniBo Motorsport, Ducati Foundation and University of Bologna: a collaboration that continues

15 May 2021

On May the 14th, the Rectorate was the backdrop to the meeting between the Emilian University, the Borgo Panigale industry and the Alma Mater Racing Team. The conference focused on the renewal of the sponsorship contract, as well as the victory in the Red Bull Motoboost.

UniBo Motorsport had the opportunity to participate in the press conference held in the rectorate, which was attended by several academic figures, including the Rector Francesco Ubertini and our Faculty Advisor Nicolò Cavina, in addition to the top management of Ducati Motor Holding, in the figures of the CEO Claudio Domenicali and the head of innovation and R&D Simone di Piazza.

During the event were touched the focal points of our philosophy: innovation, teamwork, the support of the University and the link with the territory of the Motor Valley, defined by the Rector as “a reference all over the world”. The support that many neighboring brands offer us, symbolized for the occasion by the Borgo Panigale company, is synonymous for us of pride, but above all it’s converted into the desire to get involved and repay our sponsors with better and better results.

The victory at the Red Bull Motoboost, which was extensively discussed through the stories of the protagonists, still shows that the work, although in the worst conditions, always pays off, and allows us to aspire to ever better goals: it is not only an important victory that will allow seven of our boys to participate in the Austrian GP, but a much-hoped-for starting point in this dark period of pandemic.

The conference was also an opportunity to announce the renewal of the two-year contract with the Ducati Foundation: the company, genuinely interested in the project, has allowed, and still helps the young people in the development of soft skills, collective intelligence, an attitude to teamwork and sharing ideas, all skills that can be spent in today’s varied working world. “In Bologna you can study not only from a theoretical point of view, but there is also the possibility of doing more”, remarked Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding “the possibility of giving students a vision of the future, a vision of what reality can be, […] putting your skin in the game”.

In agreement to these words, the Magnificent Rector marked how the spirit of the project is “learning, as well as winning. Thanks to the team, to the capillary organization, but above all to the possibility of being supported by such prestigious companies, to date we can consider our objectives increasingly within our reach”. We students, therefore, can enjoy the proximity of the high-quality brands of the Motor Valley, which allows us to raise the bar increasingly.

After the press conference held in the University Library, the event then moved to the courtyard of the Hercules, where our Alpha Leonis and a specimen of Ducati Superleggera were exhibited. Exhibiting our prototype in the oldest university in the Western world, flanked by an iconic motorcycle of the current panorama, underlined the link that unites us with the academic environment and with the surrounding territory.
