UNIBO MOTORSPORT & UNIBOAT, SUCCESSES TO BUILD UPON

The presentation for the new year of the Alma Mater Racing Team has officially kicked off, filled with confidence and aspirations for new goals.

On December 11, 2023, UniBo Motorsport and UniBoAT teams celebrated their achievements from the just-concluded season. The customary MotorFest event marked the presentation of the year’s results and signaled the beginning of the new season, introducing the new teams.

At the UNA Hotels Congress Center in San Lazzaro di Savena, numerous guests gathered, representing not only the teams but also high academic and institutional authorities. The event began with words from Professor Federico Condello, Vice Rector for institutional communication for students. He first congratulated the team for their successes this year, highlighting UniBo Motorsport as a unique initiative that draws attention from many local businesses, fostering proactive collaboration between them and the students. Dr. Vincenzo Colla, Councilor for economic development and green economy, labor, and training of the Emilia Romagna Region, emphasized the continuously growing motorsport sector and the region’s investment in education, particularly in the university. Following this, Professor Nicolò Cavina, Faculty Advisor of the Team, emphasized the project’s importance as an opportunity to integrate practical and applied aspects with the more theoretical teachings of the university, expressing pride in leading the project.

The traditional handover between the old and new members took place, with former Team Leader Gabriele Cernicchi listing the achievements of the outgoing team. The first-place finish at Aragon in the seventh edition of the international Motostudent competition for the electric motorcycle, along with the second-place finishes at Varano in Formula SAE Italy and in Hungary in Formula Student East for the combustion car, are sources of great pride and solid starting points for setting even more ambitious goals. New Team Leader Riccardo Lutti, in addition to introducing the new team members, outlined the objectives for the upcoming season: improving upon the results of the just-concluded season and continuing to grow in all aspects as a team. Iacopo Roncuzzi, Team Leader of UniBoAT, also spoke, presenting the results of 2023 and the project’s goals for the next season.

The last interventions of the evening focused on UniBo Motorsport’s connection with local companies and the partners supporting the Bolognese team. Ambassador Pier Luigi Santi expressed gratitude and renewed pride in having distinguished partners for the entire project, which has yielded significant results over the years through the commitment of everyone in supporting the team, surpassing 300 attendances this year. The microphone was then passed to Engineer Maurizio Reggiani, Vice President Motorsport of Automobili Lamborghini, followed by Engineer Simone Di Piazza, Head of Innovation and R&D Services at Ducati Motor Holding, and Engineer Manfredi Fenici, Technical Director of Engines Engineering. They reiterated the importance of the UniBo Motorsport project as a training path for students and simultaneously as research and development in service to local industries. The speeches of Mrs. Chiara Sartini, President of I.C.O.S., and Dr. Francesco Possati, Vice President of the Marposs Group, were also very engaged, expressing their pride in collaborating with many enterprising young individuals and emphasizing how the paths these students take prepare them for the professional world and the positions these companies offer.

MotorFest concluded with final greetings and the customary photo with the team and all the speakers, who had the opportunity to pose with the trophies won during the past season, expressing the hope to meet again in a year with more milestones and victories to celebrate.
